ARE YOU INTERESTED IN GENEALOGY?

Trollhättebygdens släktforskare (Genealogists of the Trollhättan area) was founded in april 1993 and so it is a young society. But we have grown rapidly and now have over 400 members.

We have three regular meetings in autumn and three in spring. In these meetings, we have lectures by persons of current interest, often in co-operation with near-by home district societies.

We arrange classes according to the members' wishes, e.g. computer use, reading old handwriting, methods in genealogy and so on.

We arrange visits to different archives and institutions as well as meetings where we swap research results.

Every monday at 16.00 until 21.00 from february until april and from september until november, we have a research service at our premises in Villa Elfhög, where some microcard readers and microcards from the area is at our disposal. There are lists over church records in surrounding parishes, lots of topographic litterature and periodicals from other societies are available.

Of course we have contact with other genealogic societies in the area and cooperate with them regarding meetings, study trips and journeys.

We work continously with computer registration of churh records in order to make searching easier for those not that good at reading old handwriting.

Our society also help with the project "Name for the dead" and has "adopted" the parishes of Trollhättan, Gärdhem, Vargön, Västra Tunhem, Vänersnäs and Norra Björke.

We publish an unpretentious magazine with tips about our own and other societies' activities, clippings from genealogic press, reviews and articles four times each year.

Our member's fee is 125 SEK per year and 25 SEK for a family member. Students pay 35 SEK.

Membership does not require your having roots in the Trollhättan area. With modern technology, you can do your research at our localities wherever your ancestors came from. On the same time, you will get stimulating exchange of experiences and a good friendship with other researchers.
